The Missouri Reading Initiative is a statewide professional development program requiring the services of trainers in all regions of the state. We actively seek effective teachers with a strong literacy background as potential Missouri Reading Initiative trainers. Our program is interested in teachers who are successful working with students, as well as adult learners.

Trainer Position Description
Each Trainer of the Missouri Reading Initiative will:
- Assist in the development, production, and collection of training materials to be used in the implementation of the program at individual school sites. Materials shall be developed and selected based on the principles and theories of learning and teaching, including effective instructional practices of a comprehensive literacy program, diagnostic assessments of student literacy performance, and classroom management strategies.
- Train teachers and administrators in the Missouri Reading Initiative's research-based assessment and instructional practices in comprehensive literacy.
- Demonstrate literacy lessons in classrooms to model appropriate instructional strategies to best fit the needs of individual students. Observe instruction of teachers as they implement new instructional strategies and provide appropriate feedback.
- Assist school sites as they begin to build and develop study groups.
- Work with school personnel to increase their knowledge of current, scientific-based research in literacy, assisting them to connect this information to their own classroom practices.
- Continue personal professional development in literacy.
- Serve the state as a literacy resource.
- Assist the Missouri Reading Initiative Director as needed to conduct the work of the program.
